How to keep email on phone even when removed from server

I remember with BIS all email would be kept on the phone, even when removed from the server.

This was a great feature because I could always search and find what I wanted.

It appears that it no longer happens this way and I find myself having to rely on my computer more and more.

Unfortunately, now bb10 is just like every other phone so there is no need for me to stick to the platform.
