I am a traditional Blackberry user and I've been owner of almost all past devices with the exception of few.
I post this topic to share my personal opinion regarding the new Blackberry OS. Let me start by saying that for Blackberry, before os 10 launch, there were three mobile smartphone user targets. First, the ones that never had a blackberry and their original experiences where directly to ios and android or to nothing. Second, the ones that used to be or they currently were Blackberry users but they found ios or android more appealing platforms and finally shifted or were planning to shift away from Blackberry. And third, the Blackberry users that they were just happy with what they had!
In my opinion this last group of users, although they would certainly like a refreshing and technologically more advanced os, they would not like such an upgrade at the expense of major, strong characteristics that ONLY Blackberries provided in the past!!! Because, in my opinion, if they would not care, they would not stay with Blackberries till 2012 when other platforms were offering hundrends of more features comparing with Blackberry devices!!! And once me myself belong to this group, Yes I would certainly liked at least a better browser and some really some ( not thousants) major apps!!! But, I would not imagine missing the ADVANCED almost unlimited customization options that only Blackberry offered me!!! Auto on/off, auto profiles, different led colors, different notification sounds and volumes, one button press immediate actions, etc (I would go on and on). So, to make a long story short, in my particular case something like an OS8 based on the previous platforms attributes but addressing some major issues like browser experience and providing a refreshing UI would be all I needed! Of course, I know that in order for "RIM" to survive this was in not case enough and the targeted user base should be much broader than the one I belong!!! Of course, and again Of course!!! But, for the moment, and until the new OS provide together with the new experience my old Crackberry experience, me personally as a user I feel very hesitant to say goodbuy to features that many years Blackberry made me to love and stay loyal!!!
PS. I dont own yet a new os 10 device as I am waiting for q10. So my opinion comes from what I've heard so far regarding the new devices! If somewhere I am wrong please correct me! Besides, It would really be a pleasure to be wrong!!!
